Energy consulting and ClimateHouse certification in Bergamo
Bergamo (BG)
The operation involved the entire building except for the pub on the ground floor. The technological solutions put in place have enabled us to achieve an energy performance by Class A ClimateHouse.

COMPLETED PROJECT
FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY
The renovation and energy-efficiency upgrade project involved an entire block of flats in the province of Bergamo, comprising five residential units and a ground floor for commercial use, which was not subject to energy certification.
The block in question is a building constructed of non-porous hollow-brick, which has been externally insulated with rock wool. The old windows and doors were replaced with new PVC units featuring triple glazing with a maximum UV transmittance of 0.9.
To ensure an efficient energy refurbishment, the aim was not only to optimise the building envelope as much as possible, but also to combine this with a building services design that would improve liveability and performance throughout the year.

CONCEPT
In the basement, a heating system has been installed, comprising an air-source heat pump supported by a photovoltaic system on the flat roof of the block of flats.
The heat pump, combined with the underfloor heating system – including the exceptionally high quality of all the components selected – ensures excellent thermal comfort. The efficiency of the heating system guarantees all the heat and comfort required, as well as top-quality domestic hot water for all the flats.
In the rare instances where winter outdoor temperatures are particularly severe, this system is supplemented by a gas boiler.
The cooling function of the air-to-water heat pump allows for the dual function of heating and cooling in rooms fitted with underfloor heating.
All the energy-efficiency improvements and refurbishment works carried out on the block have resulted in an energy demand for the building envelope of 17 kWh/m²a and an overall energy efficiency of 9 kgCO₂/a, earning the property a ClimateHouse Class A rating.
In conclusion, we can say that the building has been transformed from a veritable energy sieve into a high-performance property; this, combined with a strong architectural focus, has made the Bergamo block of flats a perfect home that successfully combines energy efficiency with design.
